Position Summary The 1:1 School Nurse provides direct nursing care and health services to a student in a school setting, ensuring safety, well-being, and access to education. Responsibilities include health assessments, medication administration, chronic condition management, emergency response, and collaboration with school staff and healthcare providers.
Supervision May oversee health aides, LPNs, or other support staff as required.
Minimum Qualifications
• BSN or ADN from an accredited program
• Current RN license in good standing
• Knowledge of nursing practices, school health protocols, and public health regulations
• Proficiency with health technology and electronic health records
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to build effective relationships with students, families, and staff
Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 nursing care tailored to student needs
• Administer medications and prescribed treatments
• Deliver emergency care and first aid
• Maintain accurate, confidential health records
• Conduct screenings and ensure immunization compliance
• Develop and implement individualized health care plans
• Monitor school environment for health and safety risks
• Educate students, families, and staff on health topics
• Coordinate care with parents and external providers
• Implement infection control measures
• Participate in professional development and stay current with school nursing practices
• Document all health services per school and state regulations
• Perform other duties within scope of practice
