Purpose and Scope: The Inpatient RN provides direct patient care in accordance with company policies, including FMCNA compliance programs and contracted hospitals policies. Practice areas include hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies, apheresis, and ultrafiltration. The RN partners with hospitals to deliver quality care and ensure a positive patient experience.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform a broad range of tasks under limited supervision, including direct patient care across multiple modalities such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, CRRT, and Apheresis.
• Supervise and instruct Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff; educate ICU staff on CRRT.
• Manage direct patient care in renal replacement and apheresis services, administering treatments as prescribed.
• Assess patient responses, adjust treatments accordingly, and communicate with physicians and healthcare team members.
• Ensure safe, effective, and timely care delivery.
• Provide organized shift reports and manage patient schedules, prioritizing critical needs.
• Administer and monitor intradialytic transfusions, report adverse reactions, and document responses.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to coordinate patient care plans.
• Document all treatments accurately in patient records and hospital systems.
• Maintain equipment safety and cleanliness, perform necessary preparations, and troubleshoot minor issues.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, staff meetings, and training.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on dialysis-related complications.
• Report incidents and participate in projects as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
• Work involves direct patient interaction, travel between facilities, on-call rotations, and exposure to infectious materials.
• Heavy lifting and handling of chemicals and solutions are required.
Supervision: Provides guidance to Patient Care Technicians and ICU staff for CRRT.
Education: Must hold current state licensure, stay updated on nephrology advancements, and meet practice requirements. Certification in Nephrology or Apheresis Nursing is encouraged.
Experience and Skills: Minimum 1-year RN experience, with specific nephrology experience required before independent practice. Strong assessment skills, leadership ability, and relevant certifications are essential.
