Job Description

The Ancillary Infusion Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient care within the Ancillary Services Department, combining independent clinical practice with care coordination and administrative support in a specialized outpatient setting. This role is responsible for scheduling and delivering infusion and ancillary treatments, thorough documentation, verification of prior authorizations, and enrollment of patients in applicable assistance programs-playing a key role in ensuring patients experience seamless, high-quality care from start to finish. Working with a high degree of autonomy, this position is well-suited for an RN who is organized, self-directed, and confident managing workflows independently while collaborating closely with providers and support teams. In addition, the Ancillary Infusion RN assists with protocol development, supply ordering, and departmental initiatives, offering the opportunity to contribute beyond direct patient care and make a meaningful impact on department operations and patient outcomes. This is a .80 FTE Position (32 hours per week, Mon-Fri) and may also include occasional travel to our Wausau facility. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities • Provide direct patient care, including administration of ancillary testing and intravenous therapies, using evidence-based practices consistent with SGNA standards and organizational policies. • Obtain and verify comprehensive medical histories and medication lists for new patients; assess and document symptoms at each follow-up visit to support continuity of care and quality reporting. • Coordinate and complete pre-certifications and prior authorizations for infusions and treatments, including verification of patient enrollment in applicable patient assistance programs. • Educate patients on care plans, prescribed medications, infusion processes, and pre-/post-treatment instructions, ensuring patients feel informed and confident in their care. • Accurately document all nursing actions, patient assessments, observations, and responses to treatment in the electronic medical record. • Serve as a professional role model by demonstrating clinical excellence, teamwork, reliability, and a patient-first mindset. • Supervise and/or coordinate delegated patient care tasks with licensed and unlicensed personnel as appropriate. • Provide support to the Ancillary Services Manager in their absence, helping ensure continuity of operations. • Assist with protocol development, supply ordering, and other departmental initiatives as needed. • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals. Minimum Qualifications • Education • Associate Degree in Nursing required. Licensure/Certification • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Wisconsin required. • BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred. • CGRN certification through ABCGN preferred. Experience • Minimum five years of nursing experience preferred. • Previous gastroenterology experience, including infusion therapy experience, preferred. Competencies Required • Knowledge • Advanced clinical knowledge of the GI system, pharmaceuticals, GI related diagnostic testing (lab and radiology), and ancillary testing. Skills • Possesses interpersonal, communication, and listening skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with patients, physicians, and all staff members. • Proficient computer skills working in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Practice Management software. Demonstrates professionalism and respect in all forms of communication and correspondence. • Advanced clinical nursing assessment and documentation skills. Abilities • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and cope with rapidly changing patient care needs. • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of health information. • Ability to document accurately and efficiently in an electronic medical record.
