A3 is a collaborative 30-bed unit where dedicated nursing and healthcare professionals provide compassionate care to a diverse Medical/Surgical patient population. JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Nursing Manager is a Registered Nurse (RN) tasked with supervising patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations. This role includes overseeing nursing staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient and family-centered care in alignment with the hospital’s strategic goals.
This leadership position collaborates closely with management, overseeing daily operations of the A3 department, including off shift and weekend supervision of nursing and support staff. Duties involve managing resources, ensuring quality improvement, handling payroll, scheduling colleagues, and monitoring patient flow to enhance clinical operations. Additionally, this role ensures a safe and therapeutic environment by stepping in as a staff RN when necessary.
The Assistant Nursing Manager champions standards of excellence and fosters professional development within the team while participating in—and potentially leading—Performance Improvement initiatives within the unit.
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required; Master's Degree preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of two years as RN in an acute medical-surgical unit required; supervisory experience preferred.
• Licensure, Certification, Registration:
• Current Connecticut Registered Nurse License
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Ability to obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 90 days of hire. ACLS certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
• Expertise in nursing principles and healthcare administration
• Ability to make sound clinical assessments and provide safe, effective care in a collaborative health team environment
• Familiarity with federal, state, and regulatory requirements
• Strong workforce utilization skills
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
• Proven leadership capabilities, managing change and conflict while holding colleagues accountable
• Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to nursing
• Understanding of high reliability organizations (HRO) and LEAN strategies for process improvement
• Commitment to ongoing learning and quality improvement in patient care
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Effective collaborator, both independently and as part of a team
• Strong problem-solving skills, especially in emergencies
• Embrace diversity and promote an inclusive workplace
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
