Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Behavioral Health Registered Nurse to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mental health and behavioral care, with a strong background in patient assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment providing specialized care for individuals with diverse behavioral health needs, including those with developmental disabilities, dementia, or acute psychiatric conditions. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care while adhering to all safety and regulatory standards, including HIPAA and infection control protocols. Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks is highly desirable.
Duties
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, mental status exams, and physical examinations.
• Administer medications and injections accurately following aseptic techniques and medical orders.
• Monitor patients’ physiological status using advanced skills in airway management, IV infusion, venipuncture, catheter care, and ventilator management.
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation for patients experiencing acute behavioral episodes or psychiatric emergencies.
• Develop individualized care plans based on diagnostic evaluations and patient needs; coordinate discharge planning and follow-up care.
• Document all patient interactions clearly and accurately within EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, social workers, therapists, and case managers to optimize patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and families on medication administration, disease management, nutrition, and health coaching tailored to behavioral health conditions.
• Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed to prevent transmission of infectious diseases within the facility.
• Assist with specialized procedures such as suturing, ostomy care, or gastrostomy feeding as needed.
Experience
• Proven experience in behavioral health nursing within inpatient or outpatient settings; experience in psychiatric units or crisis stabilization units is preferred.
• Familiarity with a broad range of medical procedures including IV insertion, tube feeding, sterile processing, and basic life support certification.
• Knowledge of ICD-10/ICD-9 coding for documentation purposes; experience with CPT coding is a plus.
• Background working with diverse populations such as geriatrics (memory care), pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), or individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia is highly valued.
• Prior exposure to hospital medicine, emergency room environments (Level I/II Trauma Center), or post-acute care settings enhances candidacy.
• Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks is desirable.
• Additional skills include trauma medicine expertise, infectious disease care protocols, hospice & palliative medicine knowledge, and familiarity with Workers' Compensation law related to occupational health injuries.
