Position Summary:
Provide comprehensive nursing care by assessing and addressing participants’ health needs, administering medications, and responding to illnesses or injuries in accordance with professional nursing standards. Maintain a safe, respectful, and culturally responsive environment; monitor health status and environmental safety; and accurately document and report all medical information. Ensure infection control, confidentiality, and patient rights in compliance with HIPAA guidelines, and coordinate with parents/guardians to verify medical needs and medications before and during camp.
Essential Functions:
• Assess participants’ health needs and problems (emergency and non-emergency) and provide professional nursing assistance with preventive health maintenance and treatment of illness and injuries through application of the Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and Standard of Professional Performance defined by the American Nurses Association.
• Establish respectful, compassionate, and therapeutic environment by providing culturally appropriate support to participants.
• Evaluate participants’ health and environmental safety.
• Record and report symptoms and changes in participant’s conditions maintaining accurate, detailed patient profiles, reports and /or records.
• Administer camper (and staff) prescription medication as directed.
• Dispense over-the-counter medication as appropriate.
• Protect participants and operations by adhering to infection-control policies and procedures and keeping information and records confidential.
• Follow universal precautions, aseptic techniques, and personal protective precautions required as appropriate.
• Assure patients’ rights and privacy are respected and advocate for patient; acknowledge and maintain patients’ rights of confidential issues at all times and follow HIPPA guidelines.
• Contact parent/guardian to review participant’s medical needs prior to camp.
• Collect medication and verify participant’s medical profile at check in.
Non-Essential Functions:
• Perform other related functions as assigned.
Equipment:
• Standard office equipment.
• Camp Nurse Medical Bag including but not limited to, all supplies and materials required to complete assessment and equipment needed for use within nursing skills practice.
Position Requirements:
• Associate degree in nursing from an accredited institution whose program of study has been recognized by the Council for Higher Education. A bachelor’s degree of science in nursing from an accredited institution whose program of study has been recognized by the Council for Higher Education preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year of clinical work experience is required.
• One (1) year of working with pediatric patients is preferred.
• One (1) year experience administering medication to pediatric patients is preferred.
• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan is required.
• First Aid and Basic Life Support certification is required.
• Strong delivery of positive service and good communication skills, both oral and written, and project management skills.
• Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills; and the ability to communicate effectively with all appropriate audiences.
• Must be available to work days, nights and weekends.

Physical Requirements:
• Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team in all camp activities.
• Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment.
• Frequently required to talk and hear.
• Ability to walk independently for a reasonable distance and assist another individual as needed, including pushing a manual wheelchair.
Work Environment:
• Work in a camp setting with daily exposure to sun, heat, insects and other outdoor elements.
• May be exposed to blood, body tissue and fluids as well as hazardous substances/chemicals.
• Exposure to noise of agitated patients, significant work pace/pressure.
