DescriptionJOB SUMMARYThe Camp Nurse is responsible for the care and supervision of all medical services. This care includes looking after ill or injured campers or staff, administering medication, communication with parents and counselors, organization of medical information, medications and first-aid kits, as well as keeping records of camper medical needs. The Camp Nurse is vital to ensuring that each camp participant can participate in all the indoor and outdoor activities to the best of their ability during the camp program. The Camp Nurse must make safety a priority. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAssist in organizing and setting up the Camp Nurse station.Ensure first-aid kits are properly supplied and maintained.Maintain a daily log of camper visits to the Camp Nurse.Accept and store all prescription and over-the-counter drugs with physician orders.Administer all prescription and over-the-count drugs per individual orders.Illness and injury management.Be a medical resource that would bridge the gap between basic medical knowledge and emergencies.Provide first aid for minor medical situations (i.e. cuts, scrapes and bruises, bee stings, dehydration, sunburn).Provide activities of daily living (ADLs), such as feeding and toileting, and personal care for campers, as needed.Serve as a positive role model during all camp activities, as well as transitional times throughout the day.Communicate all necessary information to peers, supervisors, volunteers, families, and campers in a positive manner.Adhere to all camp and facility policies and procedures.RequirementsJOB QUALIFICATIONSRequiredCurrently licensed as a Registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN)One to two years of experience working with children in a healthcare or related field21 years of age or olderCompletion of New Staff Orientation TrainingsMandated Reporting and Child Abuse TrainingCurrent State Child Abuse History ClearanceCurrent State Police Record CheckCurrent Federal Criminal History Background Check (FBI Fingerprinting)Compliance with Drug Testing & Satisfactory Drug Testing ResultsFirst Aid & CPR/AED CertificationKnowledge of HIPAA guidelines and client’s right to privacy and protectionKnowledge of Leg Up Farm Therapy Program policies and proceduresAbility to maintain health forms and paperworkExcellent skills in verbal and written communicationHighly detail-oriented, able to work independently, multi-task, and provide self-direction regarding implementation of summer camp program.Ability to remain calm and perform duties in stressful situations, as well as directing volunteers to assist as needed.Ability to apply common sense understanding and problem solve.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and proprietary business practicesStrong Commitment to Organization’s Mission, Vision, & Culture of Positive Attitude, Passion, Teamwork, and RespectHigh Degree of Personal Integrity and Professional ConductHigh Degree of Flexibility and DependabilityDeep Sense of Compassion and Responsiveness to Client’s NeedsExemplify the six Guiding Principles of Leg Up Farm:We will remember to HAVE FUN!We are supportive and respect everyone we interact with and treat them as family.We are “present” in all interactions.We foster a “can-do” attitude by focusing on the strengths and creativity of each individual.We are committed to continual improvement, both personally and professionally.We are open to change, so we can be innovative.Preferred;Bilingual preferredWORKING CONDITIONSThe physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
