An opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse specializing in Cardiovascular Intensive Care within a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) setting. This contract role is located in Newark, NJ, at a prominent medical center dedicated to comprehensive pediatric and cardiac care. The assignment spans 13 weeks, offering a challenging and rewarding environment for experienced critical care nurses.
Responsibilities:
• Provide skilled nursing care to pediatric patients with complex cardiac conditions, including congenital heart defects and post-operative cardiac surgery cases.
• Manage care for patients with interventions such as Medtronic pacemakers, telemetry monitoring, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilators, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Maintain accurate documentation using the EPIC charting system.
• Float to Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as needed based on hospital requirements and competency.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in PICU critical care with at least 1 year of documented cardiac nursing experience.
• Competence in caring for patients with ASD, VSD, AV Canal Defect, valve replacements, Glenn and Fontan procedures, TOF, cardiac transplant, post-cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterizations, and ablations.
• Current certifications in BLS and PALS; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
• Experience working with Medtronic pacemakers and telemetry monitoring is required.
• Proficiency in managing ventilatory support including BIPAP/CPAP, mechanical ventilation, and high flow oxygen therapies.
• Comfortable with a patient ratio of approximately 1:2 in a 19-bed unit.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records.
• Night shift availability: Three 12-hour shifts (7:00 pm – 7:30 am).
• First-time travel nurses will not be considered.
• Professional appearance with navy blue scrubs.
