Clinic Nurse Reports To: Clinic Director POSITION SUMMARY: The ideal candidate will be a responsible, well educated professional who displays respect for patients at all times and respects confidentiality. Collaborates and communicates with providers and other clinical staff to provide seamless, quality care to patients across the lifespan. Candidate embodies the Cherokee Regional Medical Center i-CARE standard of integrity, compassion, accountability, resourcefulness and engagement. ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE: Full-Time (4 to 5 days per week: 8am-5pm). 4 to 5 Saturdays per year (8am-12pm). Float to all clinic locations, as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Acts as a leader and educational resource amongst peers. • Assists with cost containment and collaborates with the nurse supervisor to assist with adjusting staffing assignments. • Assists in the development of others, completes skills validation, attends all mandatory meetings and keeps current with changes in nursing practice. • Assists co-workers eagerly. • Obtains complete rooming standard with each visit including but not limited to, reason for visit, history, current medications, allergies, medication reconciliation and vitals. • Assists providers with exams, adheres to aseptic and sterile techniques as needed. • Prepares patients for privacy during exams. • Follows universal precautions and demonstrates competency in assembling equipment for procedures and exams. Ensures that appropriate instruments and equipment are properly used, cleaned, sterilized, and maintained. • Adheres to safe practice when administering medications, injections or treatments as ordered by the provider and maintains accurate documentation. • Orders lab/procedure room medications, supplies, and restocks rooms as needed. • Performs basic lab work, i.e. dipstick UA, hemoccults, strep screen, Hgb, and other various Clia Waived testing as authorized. Performs venipunctures and documents appropriately. • Orders tests/labs etc with correct patient diagnosis. • Educates patients and families by utilizing existing teaching materials, documenting appropriately. • Assists with referrals to other departments, scheduling visits as needed. • Calls patients to relay instructions, lab, x ray results, etc, as directed by the provider. • Documents in a descriptive and complete manner. • Notifies the provider appropriately when there is a change in patient condition. • Remains current on policies and procedures, follows and promotes others to follow policy and procedures. Notifies the nurse supervisor when policies or procedures need to be added or updated. • Consistently performs nursing skills accurately. • Plans patient care with organization. • Appropriately uses forms i.e. Developmental Screening forms, Epic Downtime forms. Education: • Required: Graduate of an approved practical school of nursing or associates degree nursing program License/Registration/Certification: • Required: Iowa RN or LPN licensure • Required: BLS certification Experience: • Preferred: Previous clinic experience Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: • Knowledge of cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds. • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements. • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR certification. • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, healthcare policies and procedures. Knowledge of local medical review policies and has waivers signed when necessary. • Knowledge of IV insertion and monitoring. • Skill in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. • Skill in managing one’s own time and/or the time of others. • Skill in catheter insertion. • Skill in critical thinking. • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure. • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with staff, patients and visitors. • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision • Ability to operate a computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the Internet. • Ability to problem-solve a variety of situations. • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work. • Ability to channel negative feelings into constructive outlets. • Ability to use nursing skills in triaging patients.
