
Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse in Branford, CT

The Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse plays a crucial role in patient care management under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. This position involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising individual patient care according to unit policies and procedures. The RN will oversee non-RN personnel on the unit and, when in a charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities. You may also be required to work in different nursing units based on staff and patient distribution. Additional responsibilities will be assigned as needed to uphold a high level of service.
Responsibilities
• Continuously assess the patient's physical and psychosocial condition throughout the continuum of care.
• Develop, communicate, and document individualized plans of care that target patient problems and interventions, involving patients, families, and the healthcare team in the process.
• Implement and coordinate care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans and adjust them as necessary to meet patient needs and readiness for discharge.
• Assess learning needs of patients and families, providing necessary education and documenting outcomes.
• Serve as a preceptor to new staff members.
• Assume duties as charge nurse as required.
• Meet performance expectations related to customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal development.
• Undertake miscellaneous duties to ensure the smooth operation of the unit.
• Demonstrate competency in the care of neuro patients and exhibit knowledge in neuro assessments.
• Show proficiency in airway management for neuro patients.
• Provide care and assist in procedures for patients with tracheostomies.
• Familiarize yourself with and engage in our 'TIA' teaching program.
• Perform suctioning procedures according to established policies.
• Handle specialized equipment and care for patients in a halo brace.
• Understand nursing responsibilities for patients on ventilators.
Qualifications
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Proficient in using electronic patient records and capable of conducting internet literature searches relevant to patient care.
Experience
Not applicable.
Licensure
Valid Registered Nurse License in the state of Connecticut.
Special Skills
BLS certification required.
Additional Information
Previous Med/Surg RN experience is required.
