As a Registered Nurse (RN) in a float position, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality nursing care across various units, especially in critical care and ICU settings.

In this role, you will work under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care according to unit policies and procedures. You will also supervise non-RN personnel on your assigned unit. If you take on the charge role, you will be responsible for delegating and supervising unit activities. Flexibility is key, as you may be required to work in other nursing units as needed based on staff and patient distribution. Additionally, you will perform other duties as assigned to ensure a smooth operation.

Responsibilities
• Continuously assess the physical and psychosocial condition of patients throughout their care continuum.
• Develop, communicate, and document individualized plans of care that engage patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Implement and coordinate the plan of care collaboratively with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan, the patient's response, and readiness for discharge, revising as necessary and making referrals.
• Assess educational needs of patients and families, providing necessary education and documenting outcomes.
• Act as a preceptor for new staff members.
• Serve as a charge nurse when required.
• Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal and staff development as outlined in performance reviews.
• Fulfill additional duties as directed to ensure optimal department/unit operations.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the care and assessment of neuro patients.
• Show skill and knowledge in airway management for neuro patients.
• Assist in the care of patients with trach tubes, including suctioning as per established protocols.
• Understand and use equipment for patients in halo braces.
• Exhibit knowledge and responsibilities for patients on ventilators.

Qualifications

Education: Graduated from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Proficient in using computer software, including electronic patient records, and conducting internet searches for patient care literature.

Experience: Not specified.

Licensure: Valid Connecticut Registered Nurse License.

Special Skills: BLS certification required.

Additional Information: Med/Surg RN experience is mandatory.
