As a Critical Care Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care while making a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve.

Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care on a nursing unit/department while adhering to unit policies and procedures. You will also oversee non-RN personnel and, when in a charge role, delegate responsibilities effectively across the unit. Flexibility is key, as you may be required to work across various nursing units based on staff and patient distribution.

Key Responsibilities
• Ongoing assessment of patients' physical and psychosocial conditions throughout their care continuum.
• Development and documentation of comprehensive, individualized care plans that incorporate input from patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Implementation and coordination of care plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
• Evaluation of care plan effectiveness, patient responses, and discharge readiness, with adjustments as necessary.
• Assessment of learning needs for patients and families, followed by provision of tailored educational opportunities.
• Act as a preceptor for new staff, fostering a supportive learning environment.
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities as needed to ensure unit operations run smoothly.
• Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development.
• Participate in additional duties as directed to maintain high service levels in the department/unit.
• Expertly care for neuro patients with demonstrated competency.
• Conduct neuro assessments with skill and precision.
• Manage airways for neuro patients effectively.
• Provide care and support for tracheostomy patients.
• Assist physicians during special neuro procedures with confidence.
• Understand and implement the 'TIA' teaching program.
• Perform pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning in accordance with established protocols.
• Utilize and care for patients in a halo brace competently.
• Manage nursing responsibilities for patients on ventilators with expertise.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Proficiency in computer software, including electronic patient records, is required.

Experience: None specified but Med/Surg RN experience is required.

Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse License in the state of Connecticut.

Special Skills: BLS certification is required.
