Registered Nurse - Emergency Department | Night Shift
About the Role
This full-time Registered Nurse opportunity is based within a high-volume Emergency Department at a large, well-established health system in Raleigh, North Carolina. This night shift role provides exposure to a broad spectrum of emergent, acute, and behavioral health conditions in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
This position qualifies for a competitive incentive package that includes a commitment incentive or tuition loan forgiveness, relocation assistance, and referral incentives. Strong evening, night, and weekend shift differentials significantly enhance overall compensation.
About the Unit
The Emergency Department is a 50+ bed department that includes dedicated behavioral health treatment rooms, multiple resuscitation bays, triage assessment areas, an in-department radiology suite, and decontamination capabilities.
The team cares for patients across the full acuity spectrum, from life-threatening emergencies and trauma to less-critical injuries, acute medical conditions, and behavioral health presentations. Nurses collaborate closely with emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, behavioral health specialists, and multidisciplinary support teams to deliver timely, high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Patient Safety
• Deliver safe, competent emergency nursing care using the nursing process
• Manage patients with complex, high-acuity medical, traumatic, and behavioral health needs
• Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required by the care plan
• Organize and prioritize care in a dynamic, high-pressure environment
Care Coordination and Evaluation
• Identify expected patient outcomes and participate in plan of care development
• Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to support continuity of care
• Anticipate discharge needs and coordinate care transitions when appropriate
Professional Development and Leadership
• Participate in ongoing education and professional development activities
• Contribute to unit goals and performance improvement initiatives
• Provide feedback to peers and support a collaborative team culture
• Promote a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients and staff
Assessment and Planning
• Conduct comprehensive assessments addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs
• Synthesize assessment data and communicate findings clearly to the care team
• Incorporate cultural, developmental, and individual considerations into care planning
Evidence-Based Practice
• Review current clinical literature relevant to emergency nursing practice
• Share ideas and participate in discussions to enhance patient care and outcomes
Qualifications
Required
• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
• Active North Carolina RN license
• BLS certification
• Minimum of one year of nursing experience
Preferred
• Emergency Department, trauma, or acute care experience
• ACLS certification
• Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and communication skills
Education Progression Requirement
• If hired after January 6, 2014, enrollment in a BSN or MSN program within four years of hire and completion within seven years of hire
Schedule and Compensation
• Full-time, onsite role
• Night shift schedule
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Hourly pay range: $33.88 to $47.91, based on experience and internal equity
• Strong evening, night, and weekend shift differentials apply
