An opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse with dual expertise in Emergency Room and Psychiatric nursing to provide critical care in a fast-paced hospital setting. This contract position requires a skilled professional capable of delivering comprehensive nursing care to high-risk psychiatric patients within the Emergency Department (ED). The role demands strong assessment abilities, particularly in determining dispositions for psychiatric patients, and experience managing challenging, potentially violent situations. Responsibilities: • Deliver primary nursing care to two high-risk psychiatric patients in the ED, including medication administration and restraint management • Perform psychiatric evaluations of all psychiatric patients entering the ED, determining appropriate disposition such as inpatient admission, discharge, or involuntary hold • Coordinate with inpatient facilities, safety planning, and transport logistics • Respond to Behavioral Response Team (BRT) calls across the hospital to manage escalated situations through de-escalation techniques, setting limits, restraint use, and collaboration with police and nurse managers • Provide independent psychiatric assessments relied upon by ED physicians following medical clearance Qualifications: • Current Kansas or Compact RN license and BLS certification • Minimum of 1 year experience in an Emergency Room setting and 1 year in psychiatric nursing, preferably in a hospital environment • Proven expertise in psychiatric assessments and managing violent or high-risk patients • Ability to work 12-hour night shifts (7 pm 7 am), three times per week • Strong clinical judgment and independence in fast-paced emergency settings This contract role offers a unique chance to utilize specialized psychiatric nursing skills in a dynamic hospital environment.
