Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating - Day/Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC Must-Have: Must be able to mix medications and assist with respiratory medications/equipment/intubation. Prefer candidates with previous travel experience. Description: The department treats a diverse patient population with various medical needs. Common diagnoses include acute illnesses, severe injuries, chest pain, respiratory distress, and neurological emergencies. Patients may present with allergic reactions, infectious diseases, intoxication, and psychiatric emergencies. The staff manages trauma cases such as stabbings, shootings, fractures, and burns. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary based on patient acuity, averaging 1:4 for stable patients and 1:1 or 1:2 for critically ill patients. RNs are expected to read and interpret their own ECG strips. There is full radiology support adjacent to the department. The department has available respiratory therapy support, with RNs assisting as needed. Nursing staff will manage blood draws from IV starts as indicated. Weekend shift requirements are two out of every six weekends. Shift rotations include both day and night shifts. No on-call or standby requirements are in place. Floating to medical-surgical units may occur based on staffing needs and skill sets. Successful nurses exhibit strong critical thinking skills, effective communication, adaptability, teamwork, compassion, and professionalism.
