Work Shifts 12:00 P.M - 11:00 P.M (37.5 Hours per week) Weekends required Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position: Under general supervision, directs the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients/clients within an assigned unit involving the diagnosis and treatment of responses to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing methods and techniques such as case-finding, health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive to and restorative of life and well-being. Schedules, assigns, guides, directs and instructs nursing personnel in nursing activities. Examples of Typical Tasks: 1. Performs major duties and functions as described in the Staff Nurse position description: 1. Identifies and discriminates between physical and psycho-social signs and symptoms. Selects and performs those therapeutic measures which are essential for effective execution of the nursing regimen for assigned patients/clients. 2. Develops, implements and continuously evaluates the nursing regimen for assigned patients/clients. 3. Records and maintains nursing care plans and progress notes on patients/clients to ensure continuity of care. 4. Interprets and reports responses of patients/clients to appropriate members of the health team. 5. Participates with interdisciplinary health team members to plan a comprehensive patient care program. 6. Determines and assigns those components of the nursing regimen which may be carried out by allied nursing personnel. 7. Provides teaching, guidance and direction to allied nursing personnel in rendering patient care. 8. Participates in defining, implementing, maintaining and interpreting standards of nursing practice. 9. Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary conferences pertaining to policies and procedures affecting nursing practice. 10. Participates in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to the delivery of nursing care services. 11. Participates in development and maintenance of a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel. 12. Interprets philosophy and objectives of agency and Nursing Department to patients/clients, families and other groups. 13. Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences. 14. Performs other professional nursing activities as delegated by nursing service administration. 2. Coordinates, guides and directs the development, implementation and continuous evaluation of the nursing regimen for patients/clients within the unit. 3. Coordinates the preparation and maintenance of nursing care plans and progress notes on patients/clients to ensure continuity of care. 4. Reviews and analyzes trends pertinent to delivery of nursing care services within the unit and initiates appropriate innovations or makes recommendations for needed changes. 5. Develops and maintains a system of evaluation of nursing care, practices and procedures, including evaluation of nursing personnel within a unit. 6. Conducts conferences to develop nursing care plans and to promote staff development. 7. When assigned to continuing education for Nursing Service, assists in planning, preparation, implementation and evaluation of training and educational activities for nursing practitioners and allied nursing personnel. 8. Coordinates and ensures unit participation in interdisciplinary health teams and conferences pertaining to health care setting and/or Systemwide initiatives, which affect nursing practice. 9. Performs other professional nursing activities as delegated by nursing service administration. Minimum Qualifications 1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and 2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and 3. One (1) year of experience as a registered nurse. Department Preferences Knowledgeable In: • All aspects of perioperative nursing Equipment/Machines Operated: • Laparoscopic equipment, laser systems, OR beds, Pyxis, ESU, bipolar devices, robotic systems, Flowtron, RF machines, hyperthermia machines, 3M Bair Hugger, and other related equipment Computer Programs/Software: • Microsoft Outlook and Epic Additional Salary Compensation In addition to base compensation, you may also receive the following based on the Collectively-Bargained Agreement: An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health discipline from an accredited college or university, as listed below: • Bachelors in allied health discipline = $900 • Masters in allied health discipline = $1,200 • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) = $1,800 • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) = $2,000 • Doctorate in Education, Nursing Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500 An annual certification differential ranging from $1,878 up to $4,878 if you currently hold appropriate certifications that are nationally recognized in the discipline or area of specialization for which you are employed. An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,042 up to $8,645 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Head Nurse.
