Emp Status Regular Full time Work Shift Variable (United States of America) Compensation Range The base pay scale for this position is $156,576.13 - $173,563.63. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. Job Summary The HSS Orthopedics Now program provides consistent, immediate access for patients 12 years and older with an undiagnosed musculoskeletal injury or sudden onset of pain to be triaged, receive an initial diagnosis, and if appropriate, quickly connected to the right subspecialized level of care. The HSS Orthopedics Now Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) sees patients at an HSS location to triage, diagnose, treat, and when needed, refer patients to a higher level of care in an expedited timeframe. The NP/PA Sees Patients Autonomously, In Collaboration With, And With The Support Of HSS Physicians. The NP/PA Is An Advanced Practice Provider Who Is Licensed To Practice Their Profession And Provides a Full Range Of Primary, Acute, And Specialty Healthcare Services. The NP/PA Is Responsible For Diagnosing And Treating Acute Musculoskeletal Injuries Including, But Not Limited To: • Bone, joint, or muscle injuries • Strains, sprains, minor dislocations, and closed fractures • Painful, swollen, or injured joints • Back and neck pain • Osteoarthritis (OA) • Pediatric injuries (12 years of age and older) • Sports Injuries • Steroid injections and joint aspirations • General bracing and splinting Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) offers a unique work environment, diverse job types and extraordinary career opportunities. Job Qualifications Education – Required Physician Assistant: • Bachelor’s degree • Master’s degree Physician Assistant Studies • Graduate of CAAHEP accredited Physician Assistant Training Program Nurse Practitioner: • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing • Master’s degree in Nursing Certifications/Licensure – Required Physician Assistant: • Active license in New York • Current NCCPA certification, including 100 hours of continuing medical education logged every 2 years and recertification taken and successfully passed every 6-10 years • Current Infection Control Certificate   • Completion of child abuse recognition course • ACLS and BLS certification from the American Heart Association • DEA license Nurse Practitioner: • Active license in New York • Board certification in relevant specialty area from an agency accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (e.g., ANCC, AANP) • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) required • ACLS and BLS certification from the American Heart Association • DEA license Experience – Required • At least 2 years in musculoskeletal/orthopedic practice • Experience with injections, aspirations, and casting Experience – Preferred • 1-2 Years practicing in an outpatient or ambulatory setting • Sports medicine and/or emergency medicine experience Skills – Required • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Strong customer service orientation • Critical thinking, in-depth experience, professional knowledge in area of specialty; updated on the latest new, trends, and treatments. • Time management/organization: handles and effectively manages a daily caseload; experience with varied work schedule (flexibility); adaptable • Collaboration and teamwork: collaborate with clinical colleagues (MDs, PAs, NPs, RNs) for advisement when necessary; develop and coordinate appropriate plan of care • Interpersonal: confident, works well under pressure, responsible, caring, sympathetic and compassionate • Maintains proper patient records • Performs complete and accurate history and physical exams • Utilizes evidence-based practice • Committed to best practices; maintains clinical competency • Promotes quality healthcare; seeks to improve and impact clinical outcomes • Engaged in self –directed continued learning and professional development • Leads and participates in both professional and lay healthcare forums, conducts research, and applies findings to clinical practice Skills – Preferred Experience with electronic health record (EPIC) preferred Working Conditions Physical Working Conditions Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs). Environmental Working Conditions Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Examples: patient care providers and laboratory technicians. Hazards OSHA Category 1 Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.
