As an ICU Float Registered Nurse, you will work under the guidance of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator, providing thorough assessments, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising patient care in accordance with unit policies and procedures. You will also supervise non-RN personnel and may be required to assist in other nursing units based on staff and patient distribution. Your role is essential in maintaining a high level of service and operational continuity.
Responsibilities
• Continuously assess the patient's physical and psychosocial condition throughout their care journey.
• Develop, communicate, and document individualized care plans that involve the patient, family, and healthcare team.
• Implement and coordinate care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans, monitor patient responses, and adjust plans as necessary to support readiness for discharge.
• Identify patient and family educational needs and provide tailored educational opportunities, documenting outcomes.
• Act as a preceptor to new staff members.
• Take on charge nurse responsibilities as needed.
• Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development.
• Execute other assigned duties to ensure the smooth operation of the unit.
• Demonstrate competency in caring for neuro patients, including assessments and airway management.
• Provide care for trached patients and assist during special neuro procedures.
• Ensure proficiency in suctioning procedures and managing ventilator responsibilities.
• Show expertise in using equipment and providing care for patients with halo braces.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and comfortable using the internet for literature research on patient care.
EXPERIENCE: Not applicable.
LICENSURE: Valid Registered Nurse License in the State of Connecticut.
SPECIAL SKILLS: Current BLS certification required.
