Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
• Patient Assessment and Preparation: Evaluate patients’ medical histories, perform pre-procedure assessments (e.g., vital signs, allergies, lab results), and educate patients and families about the procedure, risks, and post-care instructions.
• Procedure Assistance: Assist interventional radiologists during procedures such as angiograms, stent placements, biopsies, embolization, and catheter insertions by preparing sterile fields, handling instruments, and monitoring patient responses.
• Medication Administration: Administer conscious sedation, pain management medications, and other drugs as ordered, while monitoring for adverse reactions.
• Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor patients’ vital signs, oxygenation, and overall condition during procedures, responding promptly to emergencies or complications.
• Post-Procedure Care: Provide recovery care, monitor for complications (e.g., bleeding, infection), manage wound sites, and deliver discharge instructions.
• Documentation: Accurately record patient data, procedure details, medications administered, and post-procedure outcomes in electronic health records (EHR).
• Collaboration: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, coordinating with radiologists, anesthesiologists, and technologists to ensure seamless care delivery.
• Equipment Management: Prepare and maintain imaging and procedural equipment, ensuring functionality and adherence to safety protocols.
• Infection Control: Adhere to strict sterile techniques and infection prevention standards to protect patient and staff safety.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
• Certifications:
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification often required or preferred.
- Certification in Radiology Nursing (e.g., Certified Radiology Nurse - CRN) is a plus but not always mandatory.
• Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in critical care, emergency, or procedural settings (e.g., ICU, ER, or cath lab). Prior interventional radiology experience is highly desirable.
• Skills:
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in IV therapy, sedation administration, and hemodynamic monitoring.
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
• Knowledge of radiology procedures, imaging technology, and radiation safety principles.
