The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Women’s Services provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to women across the lifespan under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Independent Practitioner. This role supports clinical operations within women’s health clinics by delivering safe nursing care, assisting with procedures, administering medications and immunizations, ensuring accurate documentation, and promoting a safe and supportive care environment in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Nursing Care
• Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or licensed provider in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and organizational policy.
• Measures, documents, and reports vital signs and clinical observations based on patient age and condition; promptly communicates abnormal findings to the appropriate provider.
• Prepares patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures, ensuring comfort, privacy, and dignity.
• Assists providers during examinations and clinical procedures related to women’s health services.
• Participates in clinic workflow, including patient intake, rooming, procedures, scheduling follow-up appointments, and facilitating patient discharge.
• Performs non-complex nursing procedures within LPN scope and documented competency, such as simple wound care and dressing changes.
• Administers medications and vaccinations via ordered routes in accordance with department policy and scope of practice.
• Collects, prepares, and labels specimens for point-of-care testing and laboratory transport; performs point-of-care testing per Laboratory and organizational guidelines.
• Monitors patients for signs and symptoms of abuse, neglect, or unsafe conditions and reports concerns per policy.
• Recognizes and responds to urgent or emergent situations following established emergency protocols.
• Provides age-appropriate comfort measures and individualized care, including accommodations for special needs.
Medication, Equipment & Supply Management
• Maintains medication and vaccine inventory, ensuring proper storage, handling, labeling, and disposal of expired medications in compliance with policy.
• Ensures safe medication practices, including use of multi-dose vials and maintenance of refrigerator/freezer temperature logs.
• Prepares, operates, cleans, and disinfects clinical equipment according to hospital, safety, and infection control standards.
Documentation & Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Accurately documents nursing care, procedures, testing, and patient interactions in the electronic medical record in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.
• Completes required quality control and waived testing documentation.
• Protects patient privacy and confidentiality, ensuring secure use of electronic systems.
• Uses the EMR to review laboratory and radiology results, update patient demographics, and schedule appointments.
• Completes incident or safety reports as required or directed by leadership.
Safety, Infection Control & Quality Improvement
• Adheres to safety, environmental, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.
• Implements standard and transmission-based precautions in accordance with organizational policy.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment.
• Identifies and reports safety hazards, incidents, or variances to the clinic manager or designee.
• Participates in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives and Environment of Care (EOC) rounds as assigned.
