Description:
Position Purpose
At Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Main PACU provides post-operative care for patients recovering from complex surgeries performed in the Main OR of a Level 1 Trauma Center.
What You Will Do
• Provide high-acuity care for patients recovering from trauma, cardiovascular, neurological, and other critical surgeries.
• Manage Phase 1 and 2 recovery, ensuring safe emergence from anesthesia, stabilization, and transfer readiness.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and care teams to deliver advanced interventions and uphold perioperative standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate’s degree in Nursing required
• Valid RN license in Connecticut
Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
• The ideal candidate will have one or more years of PACU experience supporting inpatient surgical recovery
• Candidates with Emergency Room or ICU nurses with 2+ years of experience may be considered if they demonstrate expertise in ICU-level ventilated patient care, critical drips (e.g., vasopressors, sedatives), and strong assessment skills. Note: Training is not available for candidates without this expertise
• BLS/CPR certification (AHA or ARC)
• ACLS and TNCC certification (support available post-hire)
• Proficiency in ASPAN standards and guidelines
Position Highlights and Benefits
• Full-Time – 36 hours/week – Evening Shift
• Three 12-hour shifts, every 3rd weekend
• Variable start times: 9:00 am, 10:00 am, or 11:00 am
• On-call requirements are based on unit needs. On-call may be required to support off shifts, such as Nights.
• Specialty pay is available exclusively to experienced nurses with one or more years of RN experience
