The MCC Clinical Registered Nurse - Intermediate provides direct nursing care to patients at the Mays Cancer Center. Demonstrates independence when preparing equipment and aiding physicians during the treatment and examination of patients. Works under the limited supervision of the department leadership.
Responsibilities
Demonstrates advanced skills in the delivery of physical examinations of patients, performing complex medical testing and providing interpretations of results, consulting with physicians and implementing treatment plan; administers medications and injections as needed.
Ensures the clinic flow runs smoothly and works closely with the assigned scheduler to ensure referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic tests, etc. are scheduled accordingly.
Triages patient calls and works closely with call center team members.
Assists and arranges for hospital admissions as needed.
Follows-up on diagnostic tests, labs and ensures they are reported to the medical provider.
Refers patients as needed to appropriate specialist, consults and collaborates with other members of the health care team, provides daily wound care as needed, schedules follow up appointments, weekly check appointments, and procedure appointments.
Educates patients and family members on the therapy process.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Demonstrates the ability to function within the required nursing process as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
Demonstrates the ability to support the mission, vision and patient promise throughout all interactions.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally.
Demonstrates analytical thinking – this role requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
Demonstrates the ability to participate as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient.
Required certifications must remain current and valid.
Licenses And Certifications
RN Registered Nurse State Licensure Required.
BLS Basic Life Support Required.
Required Skills
Five (5) years of professional nursing experience is required.
