Provide specialized nursing care as a Registered Nurse on a medical-surgical telemetry unit supporting adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with complex health needs. This contract role is based in Petersburg, VA, inviting travel nurses located at least 50 miles from the facility to participate. The position offers an opportunity to work on a 30-bed multisystem/telemetry unit, managing patients requiring post-hemodialysis care, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), and advanced respiratory support utilizing BiPAP, CPAP, and tracheostomies. Key Responsibilities: • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments; develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans. • Administer medications safely in compliance with state and institutional guidelines. • Serve as a patient advocate and provide care coordination among interdisciplinary teams and family members. • Manage complex clinical situations including multi-system organ failure and post-acute care scenarios. • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain patient safety standards. • Utilize clinical expertise to respond rapidly to changing patient conditions using critical thinking and evidence-based care. • Document clinical data accurately within the electronic health record system. Desired Qualifications: • Current RN license within the state or under compact state privileges. • Minimum one year of recent acute care nursing experience; travel nursing experience preferred. • BLS certification required; ACLS, CCRN, PCCN, and stroke certification highly preferred. • Proficiency in telemetry nursing including dysrhythmia monitoring (exam required, study materials provided). • Familiarity with EPIC EHR and advanced respiratory modalities is an advantage. • Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural competence skills. Schedule & Work Environment: • Twelve-hour night shifts with every other weekend and major holiday required. • Float coverage within medical-surgical telemetry units is part of the role. • Patient-to-nurse ratios typically around 1:6, subject to staffing.
