Medical-Surgical Nurse (RN) | Albemarle, North Carolina in Albemarle, NC
Job Description
A Registered Nurse with MedSurg and Telemetry expertise is needed for a contract position in Albemarle, North Carolina. This opportunity offers the chance to utilize a broad skill set while working in a dynamic hospital specializing as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center with 109 licensed beds. Candidates must be prepared to demonstrate proficiency in managing complex medical conditions such as stroke, COPD, chest pain, altered mental status, and GI bleeding.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver high-quality nursing care on a 27-bed unit with a typical census of 20 patients.
• Manage patient care with an average nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6, which may increase during surge staffing.
• Perform critical clinical skills including stroke and NIH stroke scale assessments, chest tube and tracheostomy care, PIV starts, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and management of various tubes and drains.
• Administer and monitor medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including CNAs, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and phlebotomy staff.
• Utilize technology such as Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors.
• Float within the designated regional facilities as needed, with travel time compensated.
Qualifications and Experience:
• At least 18 months of MedSurg/Telemetry nursing experience; stroke experience preferred.
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale.
• Ability to perform specialized nursing skills including PCA pump management, NGT placement, and urinary catheter care.
Schedule and Work Environment:
• Shifts alternate between 7 AM7 PM and 7 PM7 AM with a weekend rotation every other weekend.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Work 75% of holidays, with limited time-off approval excluding holidays.
