Medical-Surgical Nurse (RN) | Chugiak, Alaska in Anchorage, AK

Providing high-quality nursing care in the Surgical Care Unit (SCU) requires strong clinical skills and a passion for patient-centered care. This contract position based in Chugiak, AK, offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic surgical environment focused on post-surgical and general surgery patients. The 17-bed unit maintains a patient ratio of 1 : 6, ensuring a balanced workload that fosters effective and attentive care. Key Responsibilities : • Deliver skilled nursing care to post-surgical and general surgery patients, utilizing Med / Surg experience. • Manage advanced patient needs including NG tubes and central lines. • Collaborate with unit secretaries, patient care technicians, and multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes. • Accurately document patient information using the Epic system. • Adhere to unit-specific guidelines and hospital policies. • Float to like units as necessary, supporting med / surg level of care demands. Qualifications and Desired Experience : • Registered Nurse licensure with Med / Surg nursing experience. • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. • Proficiency in managing surgical care patients, including knowledge of advanced procedures such as NG tube placements and central line care. • Ability to work a schedule that includes four weekend shifts. • Familiarity with electronic health records, specifically Epic, is highly preferred. Work Schedule : • Includes 4 weekend shifts per schedule. • Flexibility to float to similar units when required.
