
Medical Surgical Nurse Unit Leader in Byram, CT
Job Description
Location: White Plains, NY
Schedule: 4 days per week, 9 PM – 7 AM, alternating weekends & holidays
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Salary: $117,695 – $152,756 per year + full suite of benefits and retirement plan
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Unit Leader to support our Med/Surg nursing team. The Unit Leader plays a key role in promoting safe, high-quality patient care while achieving organizational and unit goals. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to mentor and guide staff. The Unit Leader acts as a liaison between management, staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments to ensure seamless care delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager in ensuring safe, high-quality patient care and adherence to policies and performance standards.
• Serve as a role model, demonstrating leadership, coaching, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
• Implement and monitor unit-based quality and performance improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure age-appropriate, evidence-based care.
• Participate clinically in patient care as needed to ensure safe and optimal outcomes.
• Maintain unit-based staffing and resources within budgetary guidelines.
• Ensure staff participation in continuing education, shared governance, annual competencies, and adherence to policies.
• Contribute to committees, task forces, or projects as assigned.
• Maintain a safe patient care environment and comply with accrediting and regulatory agency standards.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service, including patient rounding and monitoring patient satisfaction.
• Act as a positive change agent and support organization-wide initiatives.
Education & Experience Requirements:
• Current NY State RN License
• BSN or MSN required
• BCLS certification required
• ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications as applicable based on unit assignment
• Minimum 1 year RN experience in the specialty area preferred; 2 years clinical experience preferred
• Previous management/leadership experience preferred
• Strong clinical skills and ability to function as staff RN
