Overview

In this position, you will report to the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator. As a Registered Nurse (RN), your responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individual patient care on a nursing unit or department following established policies and procedures. You will also supervise non-RN personnel within your unit and, when in a charge role, ensure effective delegation and oversight of unit activities. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to work in different nursing units based on staff and patient distribution. Other duties may be assigned to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities
• Continuously assess the patient's physical and psychosocial condition throughout their care journey.
• Develop, communicate, and document personalized care plans that address patient needs while involving the patient, their family, and the healthcare team.
• Implement and coordinate the care plan collaboratively with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan, assess the patient's response, and determine readiness for discharge, making adjustments as necessary.
• Plan educational initiatives based on the individual learning needs of the patient and their family, and document the outcomes.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff, sharing your knowledge and expertise.
• Take on a charge nurse role as needed.
• Meet and exceed performance expectations related to customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development.
• Perform additional duties as directed to support the smooth operation of the unit.
• Demonstrate competency in managing and caring for neuro patients.
• Exhibit skills in neuro assessment and airway management for neuro patients.
• Provide skilled care for trached patients and assist physicians during special neuro procedures.
• Understand and apply knowledge regarding the 'TIA' teaching program.
• Conduct pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning according to established protocols.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of equipment and care for patients wearing halo braces.
• Understand nursing responsibilities and interventions for patients on ventilators.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN is preferred. Proficient in computer software, including electronic patient records, and able to conduct literature searches online for patient care.
Experience: Not applicable.
Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse License in the state of Connecticut.
Special Skills: BLS certification is required.
