Job Description
Providing skilled nursing care in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment requires both clinical expertise and sharp organizational abilities. This opportunity in Douglas, Alaska, places you at the center of patient care before and after surgery, as well as in managing a variety of adult medical conditions. As a nurse in this med-surg unit, your daily work will involve monitoring patients recovery, administering pharmaceuticals, and adapting to rapidly changing health situations with precision and confidence.
Responsibilities include:
• Delivering comprehensive nursing care primarily for adult patients undergoing surgical procedures and pharmaceutical treatments
• Utilizing computerized charting systems for accurate patient documentation
• Prioritizing multiple tasks in a dynamic clinical setting with a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:6
• Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and floating to other units as needed
• Maintaining professional appearance with approved scrubs (excluding royal blue, forest green, and bright red)
• Participating in on-call night shifts to ensure continuous patient care
Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program
• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska meeting all education requirements
• Minimum of 2 years experience in acute care or med-surg settings; RN II level requires at least one year in a comparable setting, RN III level requires 3 years acute care with 2 years in primary specialty
• Certification in BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to plan and implement care independently
Schedule:
• Typically three 12-hour shifts per week, varied between days (7:00 am to 7:30 pm) and nights (7:00 pm to 7:30 am) with availability for on-call shifts
