Job Description
A registered nurse with specialized experience in neonatal intensive care is sought for a contract opportunity in Gastonia, NC. This role involves providing expert nursing care for critically ill newborns in a high-acuity, fast-paced Level 3/Level 4 NICU setting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to neonates with complex medical conditions including respiratory distress syndrome, congenital heart defects, seizures, and sepsis.
• Manage critical care interventions such as vasoactive drip titration, invasive line care (ART lines/CVP), ventilator and tracheostomy management, and advanced monitoring with devices like EVDs and Camino.
• Perform bedside procedures alongside providers, manage feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, sedation, and analgesic drips.
• Utilize EPIC EMR system and manage infusion pumps (Alaris, Medfusion).
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including intensivists, respiratory therapists, residents, and APPs.
• Float to related pediatric units as needed, providing flexible support while maintaining high standards of care.
• Adhere to practice guidelines including bare below elbow policy and pediatric-friendly scrubs.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Must be a licensed RN with BLS and NRP certifications.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a Level 3 or Level 4 NICU.
• Ability to work in a high-acuity neonatal environment comfortably.
• Proficiency with EPIC and critical care equipment.
• Manager approval required for first-time travel nurses.
Schedule and Work Environment:
• Schedule includes a mix of evenings, days, weekends, and holidays following a 6-week rotation.
• No on-call duties.
• Supportive unit culture emphasizing teamwork, accountability, and respect.
• Dress code requires solid navy or white pediatric-friendly scrubs, no artificial nails or jewelry.
