
NIGHT SHIFT LEAD REGISTERED NURSE (RN) OB in Elkin, NC
Job Description
Full time 7:00pm-7:00am.
Coordinates total nursing care of the patients on the obstetric unit during a given period of time. Provides direct and indirect patient care. Ensures patient education needs are met. Meets the established standards of nursing practice. Performs the primary function of an RN by using assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Education and Formal Training: Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program. Current and valid Registered Nurse license in the State of North Carolina with biannual renewal. Current certification in BLS at new hire or obtain within 30 days of hire date. Neonatal Resuscitation Program current on new hire or obtain within 6 months of hire date.
Work Experience: 3 years of OB experience required; 5 years OB experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Must have thorough knowledge of all necessary patient assessment techniques, current treatments and nursing interventions. Must be proficient in the operation and maintenance of all unit specific cardiovascular monitors for both adults and neonates. Training in neonatal resuscitation biannually. Attendance in job related workshops such as fetal monitoring and breast feeding techniques is encouraged. Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and a professional attitude when dealing with patients, families, and co-workers at all times. Actively functions as a patient advocate. Knowledge of current hospital emergency policies and procedures is required also with knowledge of fire, safety, disaster and infection control policies. Excellent communication and administrative skills are necessary. Demonstrates an ability to respond to changing workloads and performs in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is crucial. Uses support staff in an efficient and cost conscious manner.
