Job Summary: Implements patient care activities under the direction of the registered nurse. Essential Responsibilities: • Obtains, records, and reports vital signs on patients as directed. • Documents data collected per standards. • Collects and reports data to RN for development of plans for meeting patient/family needs. • Implements and documents safe, therapeutic, and efficient care as directed by RN. • Supports appropriate priorities for patient care. • Anticipates need for emotional support. • Supports the psychological, social, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient and family. • Takes preventative measures in giving patient care: Protects skin and mucous membranes. Protects patients from falls or other contact injuries. Uses positioning and/or exercise to prevent injury or the complications of immobility. Removes/reports environmental hazards in the patient care area. Implements interventions appropriate to specific age groups and developmental status of patients. • Encourages patient/family to participate in treatments as directed. • Provides transport to and from nursing units. • Observes, records, and reports patient/family response to nursing care. • Maintains call light within patients reach and uses designated communication mechanism for patients with impaired hearing, speaking skills, or language barriers.
