Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient using the nursing process. Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. Education/Experience Required • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent • Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing • The completion of two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg (in an acute care setting) • Physical ability to lift and move patients, supplies, and equipment with appropriate technique/device • Successful completion of 180-day introductory period required to achieve knowledge of policies relative to job duties and patient care unit. Licensure / Certification Required • BLS Healthcare provider to be completed during orientation TO REMAIN ACTIVE IN THE NURSE EXTERN ROLE, YOU MUST: • Actively be enrolled in a nursing program • Successfully complete each course • Provide transcripts to Nurse Manager after each course • Provide a copy of your plan of work to your Nurse Manager • If at any point the extern does not meet their academic institution’s standard for continued enrollment in the school of nursing classes, their employment as an extern will be rescinded Additional Information • Organization: Henry Ford Jackson Hospital • Department: Five South • Henry Ford Health Location: Henry Ford Jackson Hospital • Shift: Variable • Union Code: Not Applicable
