2026 Nurse Extern opportunities are available at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Start Dates April 27, May 11, or June 8 Hiring December 2026-2028 Graduates! General Summary Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient using the nursing process. Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. Must be available to attend one of the following Nurse Extern orientations: • April 27-May 1 from 8am-4:30pm • May 11- 15 from 8am-4:30pm • June 8-12 from 8am-4:30pm Education/Experience Required • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. • Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing • The completion of two clinical rotations, one of which must be Med/Surg (in an acute care setting) by scheduled start date To Remain In The Extern Role You MUST • Actively be enrolled in a nursing program • Successfully complete each course • Provide transcripts to Nurse Manager after each course • If at any point the extern does not meet their academic institution’s standard for continued enrollment in the school of nursing classes, their employment as an extern will be rescinded.
