About the Role: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides essential clinical care and medical support under the direction of a supervising physician and in coordination with the facility leadership team. This role focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring medical or psychiatric conditions. The NP is responsible for medication management (including MAT where applicable), withdrawal monitoring, medical decision-making, and contributing to an integrated, trauma-informed treatment environment. This role is critical to ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based care throughout the treatment experience. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Assessment & Treatment • Conduct comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessments to support patient stabilization and treatment planning. • Diagnose and treat patients under established protocols and supervisory guidance. • Prescribe medications, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), in accordance with collaborative practice agreements and state laws. • Assist with withdrawal management and evaluate patient response to treatment interventions. Care Coordination & Collaboration • Collaborate closely with nursing, clinical, medical, and RSS teams to ensure continuity and consistency of care. • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case reviews. • Respond to medical emergencies using approved protocols; communicate promptly with the supervising physician. Documentation & Compliance • Document assessments, progress notes, medication changes, and clinical findings accurately and within required timelines. • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, state licensure rules, and all regulatory standards. • Support quality improvement, audits, and compliance initiatives as directed. Patient Education & Support • Provide education to patients regarding diagnoses, medications, withdrawal process, and recovery expectations. • Engage patients using trauma-informed, person-centered approaches to enhance treatment engagement. Professional Practice & Development • Maintain active NP licensure, DEA registration, and required certifications. • Participate in supervision (if applicable), training, and ongoing professional development. • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervising physician or Executive Director. Minimum Qualifications • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution. • Active, unencumbered Nurse Practitioner license in the state of employment. • DEA eligibility; must obtain DATA Waiver (or current equivalent under federal law) prior to start. • Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days. Preferred Qualifications • Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). • 2+ years of experience in SUD, psychiatric, behavioral health, or withdrawal management settings. • Familiarity with addiction pharmacotherapy and ASAM-aligned treatment approaches. Work Conditions / Physical & Mental Requirements Work Environment: • Indoor clinical setting; may encounter communicable diseases or volatile situations. Physical Demands: • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and computer work. • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally with assistance. Emotional Resilience: • Must remain calm, professional, and solutions-focused when managing emergencies, distressed patients, or high-stakes medical decisions. Critical Thinking: • Uses diagnostic reasoning, treatment planning, and medication management daily. Prioritization Under Pressure: • Manages multiple clinical responsibilities, time-sensitive documentation, and urgent medical needs. Communication Skills: • Communicates complex medical information effectively to patients, families, and team members.
