Overview

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager, provides nursing care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients. Must demonstrate competency to perform technical nursing functions; and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for patients. The Registered Nurse is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and functions as charge nurse when assigned.

Age of Patients Served:Adolescent (13-17 years)Adult (18-64 years)Geriatric (=>65 years)Required Education:Associate's Degree. Specific course work: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. New hires or transfers into in the position between August 1, 2013 and June 13, 2017 must abide with the conditions in his or her offer letter and the verbiage in the job description signed upon hire or transfer into the position. Current employees who were hired or transferred into the position prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered.Preferred Education:BSNNecessary Skills:1. Adheres to hospital and Florida Nurse Practice Act guidelines in providing patient care. 2. Familiar with patient care equipment.Required Licensure/Certifications:Licensed to practice nursing in the state of FloridaBLS from the American Heart AssociationACLS from the American Heart Association is required at hire or transfer for Code blue Team (626003) and within six (6) months for SICU (630400).PALS from the American Heart Association is required within six (6) months of hire or transfer for Code Blue Team (626003) and SICU (630400).Effective July 1, 2018, NRP is required within six (6) months of hire or transfer for Code Blue Team (626003). Existing employees are required to have NRP by December 31, 2018.Fellowship RN's must obtain their ACLS, PALS and NRP within six (6) months of hire or transfer.Required Experience:1-2 years - Critical care/ICU registered nurse experience OR completion of the UF Health Jacksonville Critical Care Fellowship Program.Preferred Experience:Two plus (2+) years of Critical care/ICU registered nurse experience.
