Job Title: Occupational Health Nurse Primary Location: Louisville, KY Employment Type: Full-Time Position Overview The Occupational Health Nurse provides comprehensive clinical and occupational health services to employees in accordance with established medical protocols and federal guidelines. This role supports injury and illness triage, wellness and medical surveillance programs, diagnostic testing, health education, and emergency response. The nurse works closely with physicians and government nursing staff to ensure high-quality, confidential, and compliant healthcare delivery. Responsibilities • Triage and provide appropriate care for employee injuries and illnesses following established medical protocols. • Conduct screenings for comprehensive wellness and medical surveillance examinations. • Provide Health and Wellness consultation and training, including Health & Life Coaching using a holistic approach. • Perform diagnostic testing including electrocardiograms (EKG), eye exams (Snellen, Titmus, or Stereo Optical), hearing tests, glucose testing, phlebotomy, strep screens, urine dip tests, and hemoccult testing. • Administer vaccinations, over-the-counter medications, and allergy injections per medical protocols. • Recognize clinical abnormalities and initiate appropriate follow-up actions according to medical protocols. • Counsel employees on preventative health measures and health-related procedures. • Provide first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) during emergency situations following BLS protocols. • Report and follow up on needle stick and body fluid exposures, maintaining detailed documentation of occurrences. • Provide employee consultations regarding physical examination results. • Collect and document employee health data based on empirical data, medical history, and clinical findings. • Maintain employee medical files in compliance with federal guidelines, ensuring confidentiality and privacy of health and personal information. • Transcribe physician-dictated medical encounters. • Schedule comprehensive employee health maintenance examinations. • Maintain a daily census and activity log documenting medical services or assistance rendered. • Coordinate with physicians and government nurses to deliver high-quality patient care in a professional and compassionate manner. Qualifications • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. • Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. • Current and valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor certification, or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of service in the Louisville District Occupational Health Unit. • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Room (ER), Critical Care, Urgent Care, or Ambulatory Care Unit. • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an Occupational Health Clinic.
