As a Registered Nurse (RN) in our dynamic Oncology department, you will assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individualized patient care according to unit policies and procedures. You will work under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator and provide guidance to non-RN personnel. If you take on a charge role, you will delegate and supervise unit activities. Flexibility to work in different nursing units is essential, and you will perform additional duties as assigned to maintain exceptional service levels. Responsibilities • Ongoing assessment of the patient's physical and psychosocial condition throughout their care journey. • Development, communication, and documentation of an individualized care plan addressing patient problems and interventions aimed at achieving desired outcomes. • Collaboration with the healthcare team to implement and coordinate the care plan. • Evaluation of the effectiveness of the care plan, the patient's response, and readiness for discharge, with necessary adjustments and referrals as needed. • Planning and providing education tailored to the patient's and family's learning needs and readiness, documenting the outcomes. • Acting as a preceptor for new staff members. • Assuming the responsibilities of a Charge Nurse as needed. • Meeting performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development. • Other duties as assigned to ensure smooth departmental operations. • Demonstrating competencies in caring for neuro patients, including airway management and tracheostomy care. • Supporting the physician during special neuro procedures. • Understanding and teaching patients about our 'TIA' teaching program. • Performing suctioning procedures according to established guidelines. • Demonstrating proficiency in the use of equipment and care protocols for patients in halo braces and on ventilators. Qualifications Education • Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and internet literature searches related to patient care. Experience • N/A Licensure • Valid Connecticut Registered Nurse License. Special Skills • BLS certification required. Additional Information • Smilow Ambulatory Multispecialty Department focuses on oncology nursing, providing comprehensive care for patients undergoing treatment and management of solid tumors. • We emphasize a holistic approach to cancer care, offering advanced medical treatments alongside vital support services. • We highly prefer RNs with oncology and/or neuro experience. • Current specialties include Neuro Med Oncology, Skin and Kidney/Melanoma Medical Oncology, Neuro Surgery, and GU.
