Job Description

Minimum Qualifications: • Education: Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing • Experience: Two (2) years of Clinical RN experience, prior experience in oncology. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: • Active RN license or valid temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Texas, permanent license must be obtained within 90 days. • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Job Summary: The Oncology Nurse Clinician delivers proficient patient care to adult cancer patients in various settings, including outpatient clinics and infusion centers where chemotherapy is administered. The Oncology Nurse Clinician will use the nursing process to competently perform patient assessments, formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals, planning and implementing interventions, and evaluating patient care outcomes. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient and family needs. Proficient in managing unexpected or emergency situations that are commonly seen in assigned specialty population. Serves as a resource for LVNs and Medical Assistants. Can manage commonly seen contingency situations that arise on the clinical unit. Job Duties: • Conducts comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, psychosocial evaluations, and medication history. • Provides consultation and coordination throughout the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Communicates with patients to schedule procedure, provide preparation instructions, and follows up with referring physicians on procedure status. • Facilitate dose modification by assessing the patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management. • Administers all medications/blood products using the correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique. • Administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other complex IV medications, adhering to strict safety protocols and sterile techniques. • Monitors patients for adverse reactions to treatment and implements appropriate interventions. • Educates patients and their families on the management of the disease process and the actions and side effects of medication or treatment. • Assists patients in finding support through available community resources. Salary Range: Actual salary commensurate with experience. Work Schedule: 19.99 hours or less per week, no set schedule.
