Overview The Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) at Riverside Healthcare's Cancer Treatment Center in Bourbonnais, Illinois, plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive and compassionate care to patients undergoing cancer treatment. The RN is responsible for providing specialized nursing care, including administering chemotherapy, managing symptoms, and educating patients and their families about treatment plans. This role requires a dedicated and empathetic professional who can work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure the highest quality of care in a supportive environment. Schedule Requirements • 0.75 FTE | 30 hours per week • Three 10 hour shifts • Float to the Coal City, Frankfort, and Watseka cancer treatment sites as needed Essential Duties • Patient Care: Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other oncology treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate dosage, proper technique, and patient safety. • Assessment & Monitoring: Conduct thorough assessments of patients before, during, and after treatment to monitor for adverse reactions, manage symptoms, and adjust care plans as needed. • Education & Support: Provide education to patients and their families regarding treatment plans, side effects, and post-treatment care, offering emotional support and guidance. • Collaboration: Work closely with oncology providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized patient care plans. • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment administration, patient responses, and any changes in condition. • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and the overall effectiveness of the cancer treatment program. • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure clinic compliance with DNV and Commission on Cancer (COC) regulations and maintain accurate documentation of all required clinical patient information during the rooming process. • Adhere to AIDET format and standards. Acknowledge and greet all customers timely with a professional and friendly demeanor. • Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. Non-essential Duties • Training and Development: Participate in ongoing professional development and training programs to stay current with best practices and advancements in nursing care. • Community Outreach: Engage in community health initiatives and outreach programs as assigned to promote wellness and preventive care. • Patient Support: Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends. • Medication Management: Maintain and administer medications accurately, including sample logging in EMR and medication room management, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. • Health Outcomes: Measure health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, making necessary adjustments to care plans to ensure optimal results. Responsibilities Preferred Experience • Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a clinic or outpatient setting. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is desirable. • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a patient-centered approach to care. Proficiency in using medical equipment and EHR software. • Compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of care. Required Licensure/Education • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Illinois. • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required • *New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 3 years of start date.
