Job Description
A healthcare organization in Lewistown, PA is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide professional perioperative nursing care in the Operating Room. This contract position involves working 8-hour shifts on a rotating schedule currently covering 06:30-15:00, 09:00-17:30, and 11:00-19:30. Weekend coverage and call duties are voluntary, with an expected 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver professional nursing care to patients from pediatric to geriatric age groups in accordance with AORN Standards and Recommended Practice.
• Conduct thorough patient assessments, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate outcomes.
• Ensure a sterile field is maintained throughout surgical procedures and manage operative supplies and equipment effectively.
• Apply perioperative nursing knowledge including aseptic technique, patient positioning, and surgical safety protocols.
• Provide preoperative teaching and information to patients and families.
• Maintain professional competence by staying current on perioperative nursing trends, scientific advances, and ethics.
• Collaborate effectively with surgical teams and communicate professionally in all interactions.
Qualifications:
• Completion of an accredited Registered Nurse program required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years Operating Room experience required.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to remain composed and professional in high-stress situations.
• Knowledge of perioperative nursing practices aligned with AORN standards.
• Candidates without preferred qualifications will be considered if willing to complete an in-house 6-month Operating Room training program.
