Provide expert care for patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) at a healthcare facility located in beautiful Keaau, HI. This contract role focuses on monitoring and supporting patients during their critical recovery phases immediately following surgery, ideal for experienced registered nurses with a strong background in critical care nursing.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver attentive nursing care to patients pre-operation, in Phase I, and Phase II recovery.
• Utilize advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and post-surgical care to assess incision sites, monitor vital signs, and detect complications promptly.
• Operate essential medical equipment such as Meditech, PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs, Bair PAWS warmers, HP monitors, and Phillips monitors.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure smooth patient transition from surgery to recovery and eventual discharge.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a critical care RN, including ER or ICU experience, which may substitute for direct PACU experience.
• Valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Hawaii is required before the assignment start date.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification recommended and potentially required.
• Specialty certifications such as NIHSS and TNCC are preferred.
• Ability to attend a pre-assignment employee health appointment, including flu vaccination or approved exemption.
Schedule and Requirements:
• Shifts vary between 8, 10, and 12 hours across days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, across ASU and PACU units.
• On-call shifts 0-3 times monthly, including overnight and weekend coverage.
• Candidates must arrive the Thursday prior to assignment for mandatory health clearance.
