Job Description
A dynamic opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse with PACU expertise to provide critical care in a versatile perioperative setting. This contract position is based in the reputable East Madison hospital campus and offers an engaging professional environment focused on comprehensive patient care before, during, and after surgery.
Location: Situated in Madison, Wisconsin, this hospital is known for its advanced healthcare services and patient-centered approach. The campus features a Universal Care Center with 48 rooms dedicated to emergency, radiology, and perioperative patients, complemented by a 14-bay Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Convenient free onsite parking is provided for staff.
Schedule:
• Day shifts: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts
• Typical hours: 05:00 to 15:30, with some variations between 07:00 and 20:00 possible
• Monday through Friday schedule
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare inpatient and outpatient surgical patients in the Preoperative unit
• Assist with Phase II Postoperative recovery, including pain management and discharge education
• Provide Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nursing caremonitoring, assessing, and managing post-surgical patients
• Collaborate to assess, diagnose, intervene, evaluate, and coordinate patient care during immediate post-anesthetic phases
• Flexibly float among multiple units within the organization as staffing needs dictate
Qualifications and Experience:
• Active Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from home state
• Current BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association required
• Minimum two years acute care nursing experience within the last three years
• PACU/Recovery Room experience essential
• Competency in pre-op and phase II post-op RN assistance required
• Basic Arrhythmia experience; telemetry testing required prior to start
• Epic electronic health record experience preferred, ideally within the past year
• Must reside within 50 miles of the assigned work location
