POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Staff Nurse is a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) dedicated to providing exceptional patient care in the Emergency Department. Reporting to the Clinical Unit Supervisor, you will be accountable for delivering high-quality, individualized care based on the Watson Model of Care for a diverse patient population. This role involves meeting the special needs of patients while actively participating in the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital and supporting its strategic goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Utilize the nursing process as a problem-solving model to anticipate and address patient and family needs.
• Conduct thorough nursing assessments, identifying subtle changes in patients' conditions and adjusting care plans accordingly.
• Deliver age-appropriate care based on the specific needs of patients served.
• Contribute to the Hospital's Patient Satisfaction initiatives through positive interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, respecting their rights and encouraging active participation in their recovery.
• Implement effective communication strategies using the SBAR format during hand-off situations.
• Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient care, including assessments, care plans, and evaluations.
• Address variables impacting patient comfort with appropriate interventions, fostering a sense of control in their recovery process.
• Support the educational needs of patients and families to promote positive outcomes.
• Collaborate with Care Managers to coordinate interdisciplinary discharge planning.
• Review patient orders, promptly communicate changes in condition to physicians, and ensure coordinated care.
• Supervise and mentor ancillary nursing staff and new hires.
• Adhere to dress code guidelines, maintaining a professional appearance and wearing identification badges.
• Ensure a safe and clean working environment compliant with regulatory standards.
• Participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives and report findings as required.
• Support your professional development through active involvement in committees and cross-training opportunities.
• Maintain readiness of the department for patient care, including cleanliness and organization.
• Assist patients with basic hygiene and activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Demonstrate flexibility in duties as needed based on patient census.
• Complete any additional responsibilities as assigned by department leadership.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
• Associate Degree in Nursing, Nursing Diploma, or equivalent is required; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
B. Qualifications/Experience
• Minimum of one (1) year clinical nursing experience in Emergency Department settings is required.
• Current California Nursing License is required.
• Basic EKG competence is essential.
• Certification in Emergency Department Nursing is preferred.
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
• Bilingual skills (Spanish) are preferred.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is necessary.
• Annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate must be completed within 30 days of hire/transfer.
• Experience with Electronic Medical Records is preferred.
