The 5 East Cardiac Stepdown Unit at Indian River Hospital is an extension of the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) offering mixed acuity telemetry and medical services. As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment. This position offers the ability to pursue numerous educational advancement opportunities, advanced positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you also have an excellent avenue in which to start your nursing career and gain Cardiac and Neuro experience in a supportive and innovative healthcare setting. A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:45PM – 7:15AM. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Assist nursing caregivers, promote patient comfort and carry out nursing orders Transport patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher from the department/unit. Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties. Attend to patient and family needs and problems. Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing and hygiene. Report pertinent information regarding patient condition to appropriate nursing staff. Assist patients with tray set up and feeding. Restock supplies daily and order supplies from Central Supply. Document care provided in the medical record. Collect and transport specimens. Provide RNs/LPNs with accurate and timely intake/output data, vital signs, blood glucose results and other data, note changes from prior measurement and communicate accordingly. Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so. Report patient needs to an RN/LPN immediately. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma or GED Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required prior to hire Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate of an approved Nursing Program or previous hospital training Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification Six months of experience in an acute care hospital setting Physical Requirements:The position requires a considerate amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds.Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment or supports, and push beds throughout the hospital.The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties such as check chest tube drainage, check urine output, etc.The individual must be able to quickly maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills.In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the Healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.Special Demands: Essential Sensory requirement - ability to visually assess patients and implement plan of care.Essential Technical/Motor Skill - finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination are necessary when charting, using equipment, and providing direct patient care.Personal Protective Equipment:Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
