
PCU/Stepdown Nurse (RN) | Edgewood, New Mexico in Barton, NM
Job Description
Provide patient-centered nursing care in a dynamic step-down unit located in Edgewood, NM. This role involves floating between several local departments within a 20-mile radius, delivering comprehensive care to medically complex patients primarily in a long-term stay, med/surg-level setting. Experience with patients awaiting community placement and the ability to assess and respond to changes in patient condition without onsite ICU escalation is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
• Apply the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient care.
• Ensure safe, effective, equitable, and timely nursing interventions.
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and protocols.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams to coordinate care and discharge planning.
• Supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and non-licensed personnel as needed.
• Successfully complete a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) test prior to assignment start.
• Be available for weekends and on-call or call-back situations as needed.
Desired Qualifications:
• Current RN license with experience in step-down or med/surg nursing.
• Competent in recognizing and managing changes in patient status without direct ICU support.
• Charge nurse experience is a plus but not mandatory.
• Ability to float among departments within a 20-mile radius.
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills.
