
PCU/Stepdown Nurse (RN) | Huntington, West Virginia in Huntington, WV
Job Description
Provide specialized nursing care in a dynamic step-down unit supporting patients who require close monitoring due to pulmonary, cardiac, neurological, gastrointestinal, and post-surgical conditions. This position offers the opportunity to work with a skilled multidisciplinary team caring for patients at a higher risk of instability but not requiring full invasive monitoring.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to step-down patients in a 20-bed private room unit.
• Monitor and manage critical drips such as Amiodarone, Esmolol, Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, and Nitroglycerin.
• Maintain patient safety and promptly identify signs of patient deterioration.
• Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to implement effective care plans.
• Adhere to unit protocols for care of patients with pulmonary conditions (pneumonia, COPD, BiPAP/CPAP), cardiac issues (a-fib, heart failure), neurological events (stroke), and gastrointestinal bleeds.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
• Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in step-down or critical care nursing.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
Schedule:
• Night shift, 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts (7:00 pm 7:00 am).
