PCU/Stepdown Nurse (RN) | Milton, West Virginia in Milton, WV

This contract role offers an opportunity to provide skilled nursing care in a specialized step-down unit. The position involves caring for medically complex patients who require close monitoring and intervention in a dynamic hospital environment. Responsibilities include managing a patient population consisting of pulmonary conditions such as pneumonia and COPD, cardiac issues including atrial fibrillation and heart failure, neurological cases like stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, and post-surgical care. Nurses will monitor patients who are at risk for deterioration but do not require invasive monitoring, administering critical drips including Amiodarone, Esmolol, Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, and Nitroglycerin as needed. The position requires familiarity with adult medical-surgical, telemetry, and step-down care protocols. Key Qualifications: • Registered Nurse (RN) license with 1+ year of clinical experience • BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required • Experience with step-down care preferred, especially managing complex cardiac and pulmonary patients • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary care team • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills Location: This position is based in Milton, WV, offering a community-oriented environment. The hospital unit consists of 20 private rooms with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1, sometimes 5:1 depending on staffing. The unit blends step-down patients with various acuity levels, demanding adaptability and vigilance.
