
PCU/Stepdown Nurse (RN) | Portage, Michigan in Portage, MI
Job Description
An opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse to provide specialized care on a step-down unit focused on general medical and oncology patients. This contract position requires a highly skilled professional dedicated to administering chemotherapy and managing complex patient needs in a dynamic clinical setting.
Location: Portage, MI
Schedule:
• Day Shift
• 3 x 12-hour shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
• Every other weekend required
• Block scheduling may be accommodated upon request
• Floating to other med-surg areas, including acute units and ER, expected
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide nursing care to general medical and oncology step-down patients with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6
• Administer chemotherapy via IV with strict adherence to safety protocols
• Start and manage IV lines proficiently
• Utilize specialized equipment, including Welch Allyn vital sign towers and Sigma IV pumps
• Accurately document patient care using EPIC electronic medical records
• Collaborate with support staff to maintain quality patient care
• Adapt to floating assignments in various med-surg environments to support patient care needs
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
• Current Michigan RN license required
• ONCC or ONS certification is mandatory and must be in hand at start
• Minimum two years of experience in PCU or step-down nursing
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Proficient in chemotherapy administration and IV therapy
