
PCU/Stepdown Nurse (RN) | Salem, New Hampshire in Lawrence, MA
Job Description
Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Deliver specialized nursing care within a dynamic cardiac medical unit focused on step-down patients from advanced cardiac and intensive care settings. This contract role invites registered nurses skilled in telemetry and cardiac patient management to engage closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, providing high-quality care tailored to patients with complex cardiac and respiratory conditions.
Responsibilities include:
• Monitoring and managing patients with cardiac complexities such as pacemakers, chest tubes, thoracentesis, and post-cardiac catheterization care (radial artery approach only).
• Performing advanced procedures including thoracentesis, peritoneal dialysis (PD), tracheostomy care, and utilizing BiPAP and high-flow oxygen therapies.
• Collaborating in a team-based environment with defined patient-to-nurse ratios (5:1), supporting safe and effective care delivery.
• Documenting care accurately using the Meditech Expanse system to ensure continuity and compliance.
• Participating in bedside shift rounds and patient handoff meetings, enhancing communication for improved patient experiences.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
• Current RN license with proficiency in telemetry monitoring.
• Advanced cardiac nursing skills; certifications such as ACLS and BLS are required.
• Experience with complex cardiac interventions and critical care nursing procedures.
• Ability to work three 12-hour shifts, including every other weekend, with adherence to unit scheduling policies.

Positioned in Salem, NH, this role is connected to a leading cardiac medical unit situated on a main hospital campus known for its Level II Trauma designation, stroke center accreditation, and STEMI capabilities. The unit is technologically equipped with IV pumps, Sara Steadys, and Kangaroo pumps, fostering a supportive environment for professional growth and advanced practice.
