Job Description

Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Intake Nurse to conduct initial screenings for psychiatric patients in a fast-paced environment. This role involves performing face-to-face or Telehealth assessments and collaborating with ED physicians to determine the necessary level of care, whether it be inpatient admission, transfer, or discharge. You will serve as a vital link between various stakeholders, including referral sources, admitting psychiatrists, and behavioral health inpatient units, while also facilitating community referrals. The ideal candidate will work with a high level of autonomy, make key decisions concerning high-cost services, and possess deep expertise in evaluating psychiatric symptoms. The ability to prioritize multiple tasks and communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary setting is essential for success in this role. Job Requirements: • Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing • Registered Nurse • A minimum of 2-3 years of recent experience in psychiatric care is required • Strong skills in assessing psychiatric symptoms and making level of care recommendations • Previous experience in Clinical Psychiatric Nursing or as a Psychiatric Social Worker • Experience with substance abuse issues is preferred Job Responsibilities: • Conduct initial screenings for psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department while fostering teamwork and effective communication. • Facilitate in-house psychiatric consultations and ensure accurate documentation for referrals and consultations. • Collaborate closely with emergency room nurses and physicians to determine appropriate levels of care. • Act as a liaison between the hospital and the community to support seamless transfers to and from our facility. • Utilize the principles of Utilization Review (UR) and document current status to communicate effectively with attending physicians. • Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills to negotiate and secure necessary approvals for services. • Apply clinical knowledge to align patient needs with the most appropriate levels of care and available community resources.
